Social Media – Facebook Updates

With constant updates and changes to social media, Facebook has taken the leap by drastically changing its contest rules for business profiles. Businesses are now able to hold promotions and contests, without the use of a third-party app, on their own timelines.

Facebook announced they are allowing Facebook users to “like,” comment or create posts on a page as a voting method, or entering into a contest. As business pages were prohibited to do so, this no longer in violation of the rules.

Business Profiles are now able to:

  • run promotions right on their timelines
  • Accumulate entries by users posting, commenting, messaging or liking a page
  • Utilize likes as a voting tool

Facebook is taking social media advertising up another level however, another factor that might have been in danger of this new addition were the apps. These apps that were previously used for entering contests and even with the new updates are not dead and won’t be anytime soon. Actually, Facebook offers insight in order to decide between utilizing an app or business timeline for contest entries.

Through the use of apps, there is a higher branding strategy creating a more personalized experience for your viewers. Apps offer more space for content than page posts. Promotions are often run under apps in order to collect data securely. This may be more appealing to larger brands and advertisers.

On the flip side, promotion through a Page is more easy and fast. A big plus with Page posts are being able to be viewed on the News Feeds. People who have liked the Page can be promoted. This opens a broader audience viewing your promotions.

The great part is businesses will always have the choice of apps or their page to distribute promotions. Facebook’s Promotions Help Document briefly explained they want to make an easier experience for all sizes of businesses to create and manage promotions on Facebook. Facebook is looking to altering polices in order to align the needs of marketers.
